The Paper Planes Recording Project
Amplifying Local Musicians
The Paperplanes Recording Project is a creative initiative designed to empower local musicians in Bagenalstown by giving them the opportunity to professionally record, produce, and release their music. Spearheaded by acclaimed music producer and songwriter Joe Cleere, the project brought together five talented local artists, each selected to create a professionally produced track that reflects their unique artistry.
The journey began with an open invitation to local musicians, offering a chance to step into a professional studio and experience the recording process from start to finish. For many of these artists, it was their first time working in such an environment, and the project aimed to not only produce high-quality songs but also inspire and educate participants on the intricacies of music production.
Each artist brought their own style, voice, and story to the studio, where they collaborated closely with Joe Cleere to bring their visions to life. The project proved to be an invaluable experience for the musicians, equipping them with the tools, confidence, and knowledge to further their careers. For one standout artist, Maryann, the opportunity extended beyond the studio—she used her recorded track to secure an ArtLinks Bursary Award, enabling her to continue recording her EP and build momentum for her musical aspirations.
By the latter stages of the project, four of the five tracks had been recorded and entered the mixing phase. The excitement built as the songs neared completion, with plans in place to release them on Spotify and other major platforms. A celebratory launch event was also envisioned to bring the community together, showcasing the artists’ work and marking a proud moment for the local music scene.
The Paperplanes Recording Project is more than a music production effort—it’s a celebration of local talent and a stepping stone for Bagenalstown’s musicians to reach a wider audience. By fostering a supportive and professional environment, the project aims to leave a lasting legacy, inspiring a new wave of musicians to dream big and take their craft to new heights.
